Make Tax Time Easier for Your Employees: Send W-2s from QuickBooks to TurboTax
A new feature in Intuit QuickBooks 2008 and 2009 for Standard and Enhanced Payroll subscribers can help you make tax time easier, more accurate, and less expensive for your employees. To use the feature, you will need to install the QuickBooks update and the QuickBooks Payroll update, both available Dec. 18, 2008.
After you prepare and print your employees' W-2 forms in QuickBooks, you now will have the option to send the W-2s to Intuit TurboTax at no cost. Then your employees who use TurboTax for their personal tax returns can import their W-2 into the tax preparation software. Plus, employees who choose to use this option will receive a 20% discount on TurboTax.
From two places in QuickBooks, you can securely send electronic W-2 information to Intuit TurboTax:
- When you close the print window immediately after printing your employees' W-2s, or after you have successfully e-filed W-2s to the Social Security Administration, a pop-up message will appear that asks if you want to send W-2s to Intuit TurboTax. If you say no, this message will not reappear anytime this year.
- If you decide later that you do want to send W-2s to Intuit TurboTax, return to the W-2 form and click the Submit Form button. This will take you back to the Print/E-File Form panel. A new button has been added to the bottom of the panel in the section New: Send employees' W-2s to Intuit's TurboTax. Just click the Send button.
Anytime you print or e-file W-2s again after you have used this feature, QuickBooks will remind you to re-send the W-2s to Intuit TurboTax so you can ensure that TurboTax has the most up-to-date copy available for your employees.
Sending W-2s to Intuit TurboTax can streamline your employees' tax preparations, but remember that you still need to distribute paper copies of W-2s to employees.
