New EFTPS Password Requirements

Tax HelpIf you use the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) to pay your federal taxes, you should know about changes EFTPS has recently made to Internet Password requirements to improve security. Passwords must now be 8 to 12 characters and follow the EFTPS guidelines for uppercase, lowercase, numeric, and special characters. Learn more about the EFTPS password requirements that took effect in February 2008.

QuickBooks Enhanced Payroll subscribers can use the E-File & Pay feature to file and pay federal and selected state payroll liabilities through QuickBooks. New Jersey and Georgia are the latest state agencies included in E-File & Pay. Learn more about E-File & Pay and which state agencies are supported.

QuickBooks Payroll will not process direct deposits on Monday, May 26, 2008, because of the Federal Reserve Bank’s observance of the Memorial Day holiday. To comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act, you might need to send your direct deposit payroll earlier than usual.

Important Payroll Dates

I Do My Own Tax Filings

March 31, 2008: Deadline to file Form W-2—if you file electronically.

April 30, 2008: Deadline to file Form 941 for first quarter 2008 if you did not deposit all taxes when due.

April 30, 2008: Deadline to deposit FUTA tax owed through March if more than $500.

May 12, 2008: Deadline to file Form 941 for first quarter 2008 if you timely deposited all required payments.

I Get Assistance with My Taxes

March 27, 2008: Deadline to submit your first quarter 2008 information without incurring backdate fees.

March 31, 2008: End of first quarter 2008.

May 5, 2008: Date that copies of your first quarter 2008 payroll tax returns will be available in the Payroll Tax Center.

I’m an Accountant

March 17, 2008: Deadline for corporations to file a 2007 calendar year income tax return (Form 1120 or 1120-A). Deadline for S Corporations to file a 2007 calendar year income tax return (Form 1120-S) and provide shareholders with a copy of Sch. K-1.

April 15, 2008: Deadline to file 2007 federal individual income tax returns.

April 15, 2008: Deadline to file individual and corporate estimated tax payments for the first quarter of 2008.

March 31, 2008: Deadline to file Forms 1098 and 1099—if you file electronically.

Holidays

May 26, 2008: Federal Reserve bank holiday—Memorial Day.
