New EFTPS Password Requirements

Complex passwords can help tighten security, and to that end, the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) changed its Internet Password requirements effective Feb. 7, 2008. EFTPS now requires an Internet Password be 8 to 12 characters in length and follow the alphanumeric and special character guidelines below. Previously, EFTPS required a 6-character minimum.

Internet Passwords must also now be composed of the following character types:

  • At least one uppercase letter (A, B, C, etc.)
  • At least one lowercase letter (a, b, c, etc.)
  • At least one number (1, 2, 3, etc.) or one of the following special characters: !, @, #, $,*, +,-

You can update your Internet Password by going to the EFTPS site at https://www.eftps.gov/eftps, clicking on the "What's New" page, and following the instructions.

E-File & Pay Directly from QuickBooks

You can stop printing and mailing checks and forms when you use the E-File & Pay feature in QuickBooks 2007 and 2008. E-File & Pay enables you to electronically file (e-file) and pay (e-pay) selected payroll tax forms and payments directly from QuickBooks. With e-file, you can submit your federal and state forms with a few clicks. And e-pay lets you avoid double entry and inconvenient trips to the bank—simply make your federal and state payroll tax payments directly from the QuickBooks Payroll Center. You can set up payments in advance, and funds won't be withdrawn by the government agency until the date you specify. Confirmations are recorded directly in QuickBooks. E-File & Pay requires QuickBooks 2007 or above, an active Enhanced Payroll subscription, activation, and Internet access.

Visit the Payroll Tax Support site to access detailed information about E-File & Pay and a current list of forms and payments that can be e-filed or e-paid from QuickBooks. New Jersey and Georgia are the latest state agencies included in E-File & Pay.

If you subscribe to QuickBooks Assisted Payroll, we'll prepare and file your federal and state payroll tax forms for you. Visit www.payroll.com/assisted to learn more.
