QuickBooks Payroll will not process direct deposits on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007; Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008; Monday, Jan. 21, 2008; and Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, because of the Federal Reserve Bank's observance of the Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and Presidents' Day holidays. To comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act, you might need to send your direct deposit payroll earlier than usual.

Important Payroll Dates

I Do My Own Tax Filings

Dec. 9, 2007: The last day to transmit 2006 W-2s to the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Dec. 10-17, 2007: The Social Security Administration (SSA) will not accept any W-2 transmissions during this week, as the SSA will be preparing for 2007 W-2 submissions. Employers may begin transmitting 2007 W-2s to the SSA beginning Dec. 18, 2007.

Jan. 7, 2008: Date that IRS e‑filing servers will begin accepting e‑filings for 2007 Form 940 and fourth quarter 2007 Form 941. If you attempt to e‑file these forms before Jan. 7, you will receive a rejection message and will need to resubmit your e‑filings through QuickBooks.

Jan. 31, 2008: Deadline for Forms W-2, 940, 941, 943, and 944:

  • Deadline to supply each employee a completed Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement.
  • Deadline to deposit FUTA tax owed through December if more than $500.
  • Deadline to file Form 940 (FUTA) for 2007.
  • Deadline to file Form 941 for fourth quarter 2007.
  • Deadline to file Form 943 for 2007.
  • Deadline to file Form 944 for 2007 if you are a small employer assigned this filing type by the IRS.

Feb. 29, 2008: Deadline to file Form W-3, Transmittal of Wage and Tax Statements, along with Copy A of all the Forms W-2 you issued for 2007 (March 31, 2008, if you file electronically).

Dec. 27, 2007: Deadline for submitting corrections and adjustments to your 2007 payroll information.

Dec. 31, 2007: Deadline to change your W-2 print option in the Payroll Tax Center.

Jan. 7, 2008: Date that applicable W-2 processing fees will be charged if you selected the Intuit Print Service print option for W-2s; be sure to fund your payroll account. Specific pricing for your company is displayed in the Payroll Tax Center when you select the Change W-2 printing option link.

Jan. 10, 2008: Date that W-2s will be available in the Payroll Tax Center for viewing and printing if you selected the Self-Print option for W-2s.

Jan 21, 2008: Federal Reserve bank holiday—Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. QuickBooks Assisted Payroll will be open.

Jan. 25, 2008: Date that W-2s should arrive at your company legal address if you selected the Intuit Print Service print option for W-2s.

Jan. 31, 2008: Deadline to supply each employee a completed Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement.

Feb. 5, 2008: Date that copies of your filed fourth quarter and annual tax forms will be available in the Payroll Tax Center.

Feb. 18, 2008: Federal Reserve bank holiday—Presidents' Day. QuickBooks Assisted Payroll will be open.

I'm an Accountant

Dec. 17, 2007: Deadline for corporations to file the fourth installment of estimated tax payments for 2007.

Jan. 15, 2008: Deadline for individuals to file the fourth installment of estimated tax payments for 2007.

All Services

Jan. 31, 2008: Deadline to supply each 1099 subcontractor with a completed Form 1099.

Feb. 28, 2008: Deadline to file Forms 1099 and 1096:

  • Deadline to file Form 1099 for each recipient (March 31, 2008, if you file electronically).
  • Deadline to file Form 1096 (March 31, 2008, if you file electronically).

Holidays

Dec. 25, 2007: Federal Reserve bank holiday—Christmas Day.

Jan. 1, 2008: Federal Reserve bank holiday—New Year's Day.
