Avoid Creating a New Data File
If your QuickBooks data file has errors or your file is too large and slow, your first step toward resolution is to identify the problems in your file and fix them. You may even entertain the idea of starting all over again with a new QuickBooks data file. But if you use Assisted Payroll, be aware that we cannot accommodate a new data file.
Here's why: The payroll service is hard-coded into a file when the original file is brought onto the service. Once the information is hard-coded in the file, we are unable to transfer it to a different file.
But you do have options that may help:
- If you have errors in your file, please contact Assisted Payroll, and we will assist in the repair of your file.
- If your data file is too slow or large, you can use the Clean Up Company utility in QuickBooks 2008, 2007, and 2006 or the Archive and Condense feature in QuickBooks 2005. The Help menu in QuickBooks will walk you through these steps, or you can read this refresher.
- As a final option, we can offer data recovery into a file that contains no data. In this situation, start by contacting QuickBooks Assisted Payroll. For a successful data recovery, the primary principal or payroll administrator should call the Assisted Payroll customer service center. The Assisted Payroll customer service representative will walk you through the process of creating a new file with no data in the file. Then they will take you through the steps to recover current payroll data into this file. When complete, the file will contain only your: employee list, payroll item list, current year paychecks, current year liability checks, and all associated accounts. Once these steps are complete, you can enter your new set of information on top of this data.
If you use Assisted Payroll and have other reasons for wanting to create a new QuickBooks file, please use our convenient online callback support request feature at www.quickbooks.com/contactme, and a payroll support expert will contact you, within 30 minutes or less in most cases. Experts are available Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. Pacific time.
With the callback feature, there's no need to wait on hold, and you will have the assurance that you will always get the right agent. Because you can enter the specifics of your request online, we are able to route your request to the appropriate team that can best address your data file question.
