What's New in QuickBooks Payroll 2008

We have added some valuable new features in QuickBooks 2008, including improved Help tools. To prepare you for the new release and upcoming changes, we put together the highlights of the new Help tools in 2008 as well as a refresher on the Pay Employees workflow that debuted in QuickBooks Payroll 2007 and will be included in QuickBooks Payroll 2008.

For QuickBooks Direct Deposit Customers

QuickBooks Payroll will not process direct deposits on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007; Monday, Nov. 12, 2007; and Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, because of the Federal Reserve Bank's observance of the Columbus Day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving Day holidays. To comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act, you might need to send your direct deposit payroll earlier than usual.

E-File & Pay

QuickBooks Enhanced Payroll customers can E-File & Pay their payroll liabilities—no more printing and mailing checks and forms! Find out whether your tax agencies are supported. Check back often, as new tax agencies are added regularly.

Important Payroll Dates

I Do My Own Tax Filings

Oct. 31, 2007: Deadline to file Form 941 for third quarter 2007.

Oct. 31, 2007: Deadline to deposit FUTA tax owed through September if more than $500.

I Get Assistance with My Taxes

Oct. 3, 2007: Deadline for making any changes to your third quarter payroll information. After Oct. 3, 2007, all changes to payroll will require an amendment.

Nov. 1, 2007: W-2s will be available to preview through the Payroll Tax Center.

Nov. 5, 2007: Third quarter 2007 filings will be available for viewing through the Payroll Tax Center.

I'm an Accountant

Sept. 17, 2007: Deadline for individuals and corporations to file the third installment of estimated tax payments for 2007.

All Services

Sept. 17, 2007: Deadline for making the final required minimum contributions for 2006 calendar-year money purchase and defined benefit plans, if you maintain such retirement plans.

Oct. 15, 2007: Deadline to file Form 5500 or 5500EZ for 2006 if you maintain an employee benefit plan and filed for an extension prior to July 31, 2007.

Nov. 2, 2007: Deadline to notify employees of salary reduction rights and type of employer contribution for SIMPLE IRA or 401(k) plans.

Holidays

Oct. 8, 2007: Federal Reserve bank holiday—Columbus Day.

Nov. 12, 2007: Federal Reserve bank holiday—Veterans Day.

Nov. 22, 2007: Federal Reserve bank holiday—Thanksgiving Day.
