Reminder: Change to Federal E-Pay Login Requirements
Some QuickBooks Payroll customers have encountered problems when submitting federal (940 and 941/944) e-payments, which resulted in the e-payments being rejected by the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS). We'd like to remind you that you must now enter your four-digit PIN and Internet password obtained from EFTPS when you submit an e-payment from QuickBooks.
Before you submit your next 940 or 941/944 e-payment from QuickBooks, be sure that you take the following steps:
- Make sure that you have downloaded the QuickBooks payroll update sent on June 15, 2007. This payroll update includes the QuickBooks changes that enable you to enter your PIN and Internet password when you submit your 940 or 941/944 e-payment. To get a payroll update, start QuickBooks, go to the Employees menu, and click Get Payroll Updates. Click Update.
- Verify your four-digit PIN and Internet password by going to www.eftps.com, clicking the My Profile tab, and then entering your login information. If your EFTPS login is successful, you can use the same login information to submit your next 940 or 941/944 e-payment from QuickBooks.
-
If you have recently enrolled in EFTPS and don't have an EFTPS Internet password, you can request one through the EFTPS Web Password Administration Service (1-800-982-3526). You'll need your EIN, your four-digit PIN, and the last eight digits of your Enrollment Trace Number located in the upper right corner of the confirmation package or PIN letter that you received during EFTPS enrollment.
Important! EFTPS Internet password regulations will soon change and require that your Internet password be at least eight characters in length. To ensure that future federal e-payments are not rejected by EFTPS, be sure to choose a password that has at least eight characters and follows all of the numeric and character guidelines imposed by EFTPS.
- If you can't remember your PIN or Internet password, can't locate your enrollment confirmation package or PIN letter, or have other questions, contact EFTPS customer service (1-800-555-8778).
