Update on 2006 Form 1096 Ordered from Intuit
The IRS has posted a revised 2006 Form 1096 with an updated instructions section. Only the instructions were changed; no changes were made to the form. If you purchased a 2006 Form 1096 from Intuit, that form is acceptable for filing with the IRS, and you should not be affected.
The IRS reissued Form 1096 because, beginning with processing in 2007, the number of IRS processing centers has been reduced from four to two centers. If you mail Form 1096 to the wrong IRS service center, the IRS will forward the form to the correct service center, and it will be considered timely filed.
