Labor Department Reminder

CCH reports that as more young workers enter the job market, teens, parents and employers should be aware of the laws that apply to youth.

Consistent with the DOL’s “YouthRules!” campaign to help youth work safely and legally, the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor offers a quick guide to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s provisions on the YouthRules web page: www.youthrules.dol.gov.

The purpose of the YouthRules initiative is to promote positive, safe work experiences for young workers. The YouthRules! website educates teens, parents, educators, employers, and the public on Federal and State laws regarding young workers. It explains the hours young people can work and the jobs they can do.

New this year, the YouthRules! initiative has expanded to include the agricultural industry. This initiative was kicked off in February, The DOL has also created specific YouthRules! compliance information for agricultural employers and employees.
