New for 2006: It's About Confidence

Want to make more confident business decisions? With QuickBooks Premier Manufacturing & Wholesale Edition 2006, we added tools to get fast, accurate information about your inventory, costs, and customer commitments. The result: more confidence in how you run your business.

Read on to see why we're so proud to introduce QuickBooks Premier Manufacturing & Wholesale Edition 2006.

Be Confident in Your Inventory

For manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributors, inventory management makes or breaks the business. That's why we revamped inventory management in QuickBooks, making it much easier to use. The benefits go straight to your bottom line; read on to see how.

Smarter Decisions From Better Inventory Information
Say goodbye to sifting through multiple reports — or checking your shelves — for accurate inventory data. Our new Available to Promise feature puts an inventory item's status on one simple yet powerful screen. Drill down to instantly access all relevant details, such as:

  • How many items you have on hand
  • How many you promised to customers
  • How many are components of other products

Better inventory data means smarter decision making. You can, for example, borrow items from a low-priority order to fulfill a rush order. And you will not get caught short of key inventory items. Simply set optimal inventory levels, then run reports showing what needs reordering.

Quick Tip: Reduce ordering errors by storing manufacturers' parts numbers
New for 2006, QuickBooks lets you store manufacturers' parts numbers — a great convenience when ordering from vendors.

Backorders: Avoid Commitments You Cannot Keep
Backorders are another important new benefit from Manufacturing & Wholesale Edition 2006. We added a backorder column to sales forms-pick lists, invoices, POs, etc. — all to prevent you from over committing. QuickBooks automatically alerts you if you don't have enough components on-hand for the specified build.

Be Confident in Your Costs

QuickBooks Premier Manufacturing & Wholesale Edition always let you track build assemblies — assembled products composed of multiple subparts. With our new Bill of Materials feature, nonmaterial costs such as labor or overhead become part of your cost and price calculations. That's a big boost for understanding your true costs.

Grasping what parts comprise an assembled product is also easier. Previously you could view just four subitems at a time; with Manufacturing and Wholesale Edition 2006 you can view the entire build on one screen. Drill downs — up to five levels deep — let you see subassembly components for even more detail. It all adds up to better information on your costs and commitments.

Be Confident in Your Customer Commitments

No matter your industry, business is about serving customers. Serve them well and you will thrive; ignore their needs and you will suffer. That's why we added new QuickBooks features to serve your customers even more effectively.

The Big Picture: See Customer Information On One Screen
Quickly viewing a customer's entire record lets you respond quickly and easily to customer queries — an important competitive advantage. That's why the QuickBooks team proudly introduces the new Customer Center — available in all QuickBooks 2006 Pro and Premier editions. The Customer Center consolidates all important customer information on one screen, including:

  • Contact information
  • Transaction history and notes
  • Shipping information, terms, balance due, etc.
You will also benefit from one-screen viewing in the new Vendor and Employee Centers.

Quick Tip: Single Invoice
Customers dislike receiving an invoice for every order you ship. They'd rather write one check against a single consolidated invoice. A new feature to QuickBooks Premier Manufacturing & Wholesale Edition 2006 lets you consolidate multiple sales orders on a single invoice. That means customers write one check, not dozens.

Make Better Shipping Decisions Faster
You've got many orders to ship but not enough inventory. Which order do you ship first? Make a mistake and you disappoint valuable customers. That's where the new Sales Order Fulfillment Worksheet saves the day. First, the worksheet shows all shippable orders on one screen. Handy bubble icons indicate your orders status, ranging from complete, partially filled, or not yet begun. These visual cues aid smart decision making, letting you serve all customers better.

Then this powerful new tool helps you decide which orders to ship and when — all based on criteria you set. For example, you can ship by the oldest orders first or the orders with the largest shippable dollar amount to maximize cash flow. Finally, after you've selected which orders to ship, QuickBooks easily batch-prints pick lists, packing slips, or invoices.

We're Confident Your Business Will Benefit

We view the new features for 2006 as major improvements to how you run your business. Whether it's better control over inventory, a clearer grasp of total costs, or more effective customer management, rest assured your business will benefit. In short: it's all about confidently serving your customers.
